The origins of the La Torse district in Aix-en-Provence

The La Torse district takes its name from the River La Torse, which flows through the town of Aix-en-Provence. It rises in the Pinchinats valley to the east of the town and flows into the Arc downstream of the Pont des Trois-Sautets, to the south-east. The river runs through the park of the same name and also lends its name to a bastide, listed as a historic monument in 1987, as well as a pavilion, both located close to its course.

The district is renowned for its eight-hectare park, which makes it the green lung of Aix-en-Provence, extending for the most part along the left bank of the La Torse stream. It provides a pedestrian link between the eastern districts, running from the Pont de la Torse on the Route Cézanne to Boulevard Gambetta-Route de Nice, level with the Pavillon de la Torse.

The highlights of the La Torse district in Aix-en-Provence

The La Torse district stands out for its park, the Parc de la Torse, and its promenade running between the Route de Cézanne and the Route de Nice. This promenade has a distinctly natural, rural feel thanks to its existing vegetation: plane trees, cypresses, poplars, maples and weeping willows, along with ash trees that lend their charm to the avenues. A stretch of water covering 2,500 sqm has been created, bordered by aquatic plants and home to fish and ducks. The Parc de la Torse is hugely popular with walkers and joggers. A large lawn has been laid out in the western part of the park, now a favourite spot for yoga enthusiasts, while several pieces of exercise equipment have been installed in the northern section for public use.

Living in the La Torse district in Aix-en-Provence

A safe bet in Aix-en-Provence, the Aix bourgeoisie has always made its home in this area, one of the quietest districts in the town. This district, with its leafy green setting and upmarket atmosphere, is one of the most sought-after among young professionals and families alike, thanks to the wide range of transport links, shops, schools, cultural venues and healthcare services within easy reach.

Numerous well-regarded schools (primary, secondary and sixth-form) are found in the La Torse district. What's more, its proximity to the town centre, just a ten-minute walk away, makes it "the place to be".

The La Torse district is a highly sought-after district, on a par with the town centre and the Allées Provençales, and ranks among the top five districts in Aix-en-Provence. Properties for sale are therefore extremely rare and sell very quickly at very high prices.
